Leg anatomy - process

They're a little messy, but here are some recent lecture notes on building the anatomy of the legs. The steps move from a simple skeleton description, to a basic visualization of pattern and shape, then finally to detailing out more specific muscle qualities and perspectives.

Lecture image

Here is an average demo/lecture image from a day on the torso. Things tend to get pretty messy with my scribbles and notes.

Also, time is running out for anyone interested in signing up for my upcoming workshop in Rome! Check out the link below if you are in the area or interested in attending.

Body type diagram

Here is a diagram I made for a lecture on body type/gender variations in my Anatomy class. The goal was to understand how skeletal, muscle, and fat can change to effect the silhouette of the figure. The silhouette, as a popular design element, is conditioned in a couple ways. One, from the inside out (natural anatomical qualities and their variety), and two, from the outside (class/societal structure can often determine habits and types of behaviors which cause for varied silhouettes).

Road Map

Here are the basic anatomical shapes, or pattern map, that I teach to students starting out. I always prefer to emphasize pattern and design when possible.
